Random Doom Generator is out!







This is the release of my final and best Procedural map generation mod for Doom 2. This one actually does a pretty good job and is infinitely replayable and even though it went through sort of a crappy development, it actually managed at the end to fix the bugs and make a fully playable version of itself through tons of editing on my part.
The setup has tons of advantages over previous map generators I made. Now it does way better height variation than older map generators and does maps that have 128 unit walls and 64 unit blocks... But not only that, it actually does texture variation, using 2 wall textures per map to show off just how sophisticated it is. It uses normal textures, and decor ones well... Normal ones are like Tekgren2 but Decor ones are like Tekgren1,3,4,5, the ones that are meant for one wall in a room that has to look different. It uses both well to produce a map that is not samey.
It also does enemy placement well, ramping up things in a normal yet brutal way. It randomizes the rampup too, making it get worse at a different rate each playthrough. One playthrough you can get medium maps for 5 levels because the 50/50 chance to make a level difficulty increase per map happen is not happening. Next time you can boost it to ultra hard by 4 maps in because the difficulty increase happens in all maps. To make this fair, all maps have all weapons and ammo for them all... Also expect cell ammo to be not a big thing, it is rarer than you think, so running around like a chicken and bfg shooting everything haphazardly won't work. You need to conserve ammo, and know how to kill archviles with other weapons, and KNOW how to take cover behind walls, incase you have to fight 5 arch viles in one room and ran out of Cell ammo! It's gonna challenge you more than some slaughtermaps. I would recommend NOT wasting the BFG unless your fighting cyberdemons or hordes of harder enemies. Early on you need to use Supershotgun on everything to make it easier, but don't waste plasma much as well, you'll run out of Cell ammo quick!
I have tested this version for weeks now and it runs really good and is fun as hell. It makes small maps with weird layouts, but in some cases it still produces maps that have no exit from the first room, so providing an emergency exit in the first room was mandatory. The switch behind the player is that exit. DON'T use it unless you can't get to the real exit, the white teleport in the BFG room!
Anyway, this is my last version of this mod. It's been heavily tested, has no real bugs and is fully playable now. I hope people like it.....
